Every year, Essex Freemasons raise and donate around £1 million to more than 700 different charities. Freemasonry in Essex thrives with money raised at social events, by raffles and similar competitions within lodges, alms collections, etc. However, while we are a charitable organisation it is only one part of Freemasonry and members are always encouraged never to give more than they can afford.
From its earliest days, Freemasonry has been concerned with the care of orphans, the sick and the aged. This work continues today. In addition, large sums are given to national and local charities.
Masonic charity is exercised at every level and Freemasonry in Essex is no exception where individual Lodges make gifts and give aid to their own communities. Essex, and indeed other Provinces, also give large sums of money to regional causes.
The MCF builds better lives by enabling opportunity, advancing healthcare and education and promoting independence for Freemasons, their families and the wider community.
It is funded entirely through the generosity of Freemasons and their families and is one of the largest grant-making charities in the country.
A wide range of help and support is available for Freemasons, their wives, partners, widows, children and grandchildren. Most of the support provided takes the form of financial grants to assist with financial, health or family related needs.
The RMBI has been caring for older Freemasons and their dependants for over 160 years.
It operates 17 residential care homes across England and Wales offering high quality care. Many of the homes are registered for both residential and nursing care and all can offer places to people with dementia, following an assessment of their needs. The service is comprehensive and takes care of the everyday chores, thus giving residents and their relatives time to enjoy life.
